Headline : the source code of reality has changed hands 🌍

Most people think news is about the faces on TV. They are wrong. Real power lies in the “wires” – the global agencies like Reuters and AP that provide the raw facts for the entire planet.


As of 2026, these “Gatekeepers of Truth” are almost exclusively led by women. From Alessandra Galloni to Daisy Veerasingham : these leaders don’t just report the news, they dictate the global vocabulary. 


I have analysed the infrastructure of this hegemony in my latest article .


The Apex of the Media Pyramid 


The global media landscape is a pyramid and at its peak sit the News Agencies.

Organisations like Reuters and the Associated Press (AP) are the wholesalers of information. 


They produce the Raw data , the satellite feeds and the  primary headlines that 90% of the world’s newspapers and TV stations many times simply copy and paste .


Who controls the Agency controls the Global Narrative. As of 2026 that control is firmly in female hands .


Editorial sovereignty: the power of omission.


The Editor in chief of a global agency holds the power of Omission .


If they decide that a conflict is not newsworthy, it effectively ceases to exist for the global public . 


By managing thousands of journalists worldwide, these leaders decide the world Priority every morning. This is a geopolitical gatekeeping at its most potent level .


When at my news desk at the Italian State Tv RAI , the computer had a constant flow of Agency ‘s feeds. Both texts and videos .


The morning meeting to decide the news rundown of the various News Editions , was based on the Agencies feeds . 


The linguistic monopoly


News agencies dictate the Global style book. When the leadership of AP or Reuters  changes the framing of a political movement or a climate event, that change ripples through every newsroom on the planet within minutes. 


They own the dictionary of Reality and they can re engineer how billions of people think by shifting the vocabulary of the news. 


The Architects of Reality : who is at the Helm


The managers of Global Perception:


Alessandra Galloni  – Editor in Chief – Reuters .


She is the first woman to lead Reuters in its 170 years old history. She commands a network of 2500 journalists in 200 locations. Her “ Breaking News” alerts move global stock markets and trigger government responses instantaneously. Reuters is owned by Thomson Reuters , a publicly traded Canadian-American multinational. The majority owned ( 67%)  by the Woodbridge Company , the private holding company of the Thomson Family.


Reuters reaches 1 Billion people every day .


Daisy Veerasingham – President and CEO – Associated Press. 


The first woman to lead AP . She manages the multi million dollar infrastructure


– satellites and digital grids – that allow news to travel . 


AP is owned  by a Non – profit cooperative. It is owned by its members: roughly 1700 US  newspapers and 5000 broadcasters. 


It is is estimated that half of the world’s population reads its news feeds.

 

Julie Pace – Executive Editor & Senior VP  Associated Press 


She the operational brain of AP. She directs the daily global news report and oversees the AP Stylebook. 


Kathrine Viner -Editor in Chief, The Guardian-


Leading one of the most influential Independent news organisations, she drives global agendas on climate change and civil liberties through impact journalism. Ownership : the Scott Trust Limited. It was created in 1936 to ensure the paper’s editorial and financial independence in perpetuity.


Global reach : approximately 115 million unique monthly visitors worldwide.


Victoria Newton -Editor in Chief – The Sun.


She can control the masses .


Her ability to frame stories for mass consumption forces political leaders to react to the popular narrative.


Owners: News UK a subsidiary of News Corp with the Murdoch family and Lachlan Murdoch is Executive chair and CEO.


Global reach : with the launch of  a new video strategy across platforms like YouTube and TikTok the Sun generated 9.1 billion video views


Financial markets move in seconds after a Reuters flash . Governments react  after an AP confirmation. 


Conclusion : the currency of Trust – why we follow the script 


In an era of deepfakes and decaying institutional authority, why do we still look to these agencies as the final arbiters of truth?


The answer is infrastructure: we trust them. While the rest of the media has become a chaotic sea of opinions, we trust them because we trust the silence they maintain on everything they haven’t yet verified
